Description
This is an authentic German military commemorative medal (Veteranen-Erinnerungsmedaille) issued in 1904 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 10th Hanoverian Pioneer Battalion (Hannoversches Pionier-Bataillon Nr. 10). The obverse features a detailed portrait of a military leader, surrounded by the German inscription ZUR ERINNERUNG AN D. 100 JAHR. STIFTUNGSFEST DES HANNOVERSCHEN PIONIER BAT. N. 10. The reverse displays a large, ornate crowned monogram flanked by the anniversary dates 1804 and 1904, enclosed within a detailed oak wreath. A top ribbon proudly bears the battle honors PENINSULA WATERLOO, referencing the battalion's historical origins and their valiant service against Napoleon in the Iberian Peninsula and at the Battle of Waterloo. At the bottom, a small shield displays the battalion number 10. Originally stationed in Minden, this pioneer unit has a rich military heritage, and such medals were typically awarded to veterans during the 1904 centennial jubilee. This historical militaria piece features an integrated suspension loop for a ribbon, measuring 41mm.
