Description
This authentic 1918 German 50 Pfennig emergency coin (Kriegsgeld) was issued by the Oberamt district of Neuenbürg in the Kingdom of Württemberg during the late stages of World War I. The obverse prominently displays the denomination 50 Pf. centrally located, encircled by a solid border and the German lettering BEZIRK • NEUENBÜRG • WÜRTT • O • A •, designating it as an official regional issue. The reverse features a striking classical motif of a heroic, muscular nude soldier wearing a helmet, sitting with a sword across his lap while flexing his left arm. This warrior depiction is flanked by the inscription KRIEGS GELD on the sides and the commemorative year 1918 at the bottom. During this turbulent historical period, Neuenbürg operated as a vital administrative district (Oberamt) under the reign of King Wilhelm II of Württemberg, and local authorities minted this necessity coinage to combat severe national metal shortages. Struck in iron by the Stuttgart mint, this distinct octagonal token features a plain edge. The dimensions of this historical piece are 23.2 mm in diameter and it has a weight of 4.0 grams.
