Description
Medieval Dinero “Cornado” issued under King Sancho IV of Castile and León between 1286 and 1288, minted in Burgos.
The obverse shows a crowned head facing left with the legend SANCII REX (“King Sancho”).
The reverse depicts a castle, symbol of Castile, with the legend CASTELLE E LEGIONIS (“of Castile and León”).
These coins circulated during the reign of Sancho IV (also known as Sancho the Brave), who ruled from 1284 to 1295, and reflect the medieval Castilian monetary system centered around the “cornado” denomination.
