Description
Rechenpfennig from the reign of Ferdinand I, minted in Tirol between 1521 and 1564. The obverse displays an arithmetic table with algorism and the inscription + DER. HAT. SELTEN. GVETEN. MVET 80 891 \ 99 99. The reverse shows a coat of arms with the legend + DER VERLORN. SCHVLD RAIT9 TVE. These tokens were used as counting pieces in trade and accounting, reflecting early numerical systems before widespread use of paper accounting records.
