Description
This authentic 1918 German 10 Pfennig emergency coin (Kriegsgeld) was issued by the Oberamt district of Rottenburg am Neckar in the Kingdom of Württemberg during the late stages of World War I. The obverse displays the denomination number 10 prominently in the center, enclosed by a beaded circle and the German lettering KLEINGELD ERSATZ along with the year 1918. The reverse features a shield divided horizontally, representing the regional coat of arms of Rottenburg, surrounded by a beaded circle and the text OBERAMTSSTADT ROTTENBURG A.N., indicating its status as an administrative district capital. During this era, Rottenburg operated as an important Oberamt under King Wilhelm II of Württemberg, issuing this local necessity coinage, known as Notgeld, to combat the severe national shortages of standard circulating coins. Struck in zinc by the mint of Jörgum & Trefz in Frankfurt, this octagonal token has a plain edge, a diameter of 20.5 mm, a weight of 3.2 grams, and a notable limited mintage of just 30,240 pieces.
